Gaining Competitive Advantage Through Human Resource Management Practices: A Study of Carrefour Supermarket in Erbil

 Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the selected human resource management practices (training and development, compensation, job analysis, recruitment and selection, performance management and retention) as a tool in gaining and sustaining competitive advantage. The researcher implemented a quantitative approach by using a questionnaire 94 questionnaires distributed to the employees at different branches of Carrefour in Erbil.  The findings revealed that training, compensation, performance appraisal and retention are positively and significantly related to competitive advantage, on the other hand, recruitment and job analysis had no relationship with a competitive advantage in Carrefour in Erbil
